Ed & The Boats

Dan formed Ed & The Boats in 1980 with founding members Dennis Kenny (vocals), Steve Costanzo (harmonica/sax), Greg Newman (bass), and Robert Carpenter (drums). The lineup over the next 12 years included Barry Jo Stull, Tara Richards (drums), Les York (drums), Steve Rothe (keys, guitar), Peter Bosen (keys), Bob Weadle (guitar), S.P. Clarke (keys) and Becky Kapelle (vocals). In 1988 Lisa Lepine (Promotion Queen) joined as manager of the group. The last 4 years the band’s core members were Dan, Denis, Greg and Randy, who released the CD “Live the Dream” in 1992.

Ed & The Boats shared the stage with Camper Van Beethoven, Live, and The Pretenders. They released several cassettes (including Six by Five, Inner Groove, Dear Anvil and 6-Way Street), a vinyl 45 containing “Ganga” and “Zoom to the Maya”, and a vinyl EP “Go Fish”. The Boats’ song “Me & My Car” was featured in the 1992 Harrod Blank film “Wild Wheels” about crazy art cars, and most recently on NPR’s “Car Talk”. In 1992 the group released the cd “Live the Dream”, which is available on here on cd baby. Ed & The Boats were a major fixture in Portland, having toured the west coast and briefly in New England as well, where they are remembered fondly.

There is an Ed & The Boats MySpace page maintained by S.P. Clarke.
